Dr. Hinton is a native of Hamilton, Georgia. He is a 1981 graduate of Harris County High School. He earned an Associate Degree from Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, GA in 1983. He is a 1985 Graduate of Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia, where he received a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology. In 1988, he earned a Master of Divinity Degree from the Morehouse School of Religion and the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Hinton also earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Morehouse School of Religion and (ITC) in 1994. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Saint Thomas Christian College in 2010.
Dr. Hinton is a product of the Friendship Baptist Church in Hamilton, GA where he was licensed to preach in 1982 (age 19) and ordained in 1984 by the Rev. O. C. Stiggers. He served as the pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church in Toccoa, Georgia for over seven years. Dr. Hinton became the pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina in March 1991 and the church has experienced tremendous growth and transformation under his visionary leadership.

He has preached and taught on several occasions in the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, the State Congress of Christian Education, and the Ministers Council of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
He served years as an instructor on the faculty of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, an auxiliary to the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. He has lectured in the Youth Division, the President’s Regional Convention, and the National Baptist Convention Institute.
Dr. Hinton is also actively involved in numerous religious and community organizations within Gaston County and the State of North Carolina.

As an anointed leader, he is well sought out as a preacher, evangelist, teacher and facilitator.
He has preached in countless mainline denominations. Dr. Hinton has received numerous
awards and recognitions for outstanding leadership and achievements. He is a published author of two books, Unshakable Faith, and Stay Focused & Watch God.
He is married to the former Tangela White of Macon, Georgia. Minister Tangela Hinton also serves as a partner in ministry as Director of Christian Education of the Tabernacle church. They are blessed with two sons, Benjamin Samuel, II and Nathaniel Robert.
Above all, Dr. Hinton is an anointed man of God, who has been divinely chosen, consecrated, and commissioned as a 21st Century change agent for Christ (Eph. 4:11-16).
